Details

The Zenith Chronomaster Revival El Primero A384 Ref. 03.A384.400/21.M384 is a faithful modern reinterpretation of the original 1969 A384, one of the very first Zenith watches to house the legendary El Primero high-frequency automatic chronograph movement. Designed with strict adherence to the original production plans, it features a 37 mm tonneau-shaped stainless steel case that wears compactly yet confidently on the wrist, paired with a distinctive “Gay Frères” ladder-style steel bracelet that reinforces its vintage-era character. The dial adopts a classic “panda” aesthetic—a white lacquered background contrasted by black sub-dials and a red chronograph seconds hand—while a tachymeter scale around the outer edge and a date window at 4:30 complete the functional, motorsport-inspired look. The overall design beautifully balances historical authenticity with everyday versatility.

Under the hood beats Zenith’s iconic El Primero 400 automatic calibre, one of the most celebrated chronograph movements in history, operating at 36,000 vph (5 Hz) for precise timing and offering approximately 50 hours of power reserve. True to its heritage, the Revival A384 delivers classic chronograph functions—including hours, minutes, small seconds, and 30-minute and 12-hour counters—along with a tachymeter for measuring speed, all visible through the crisp sapphire crystal and exhibition caseback. With a 50 m water resistance rating, it’s suited to daily wear, and its blend of vintage styling, mechanical pedigree, and historical significance makes it a compelling choice for collectors and enthusiasts alike who value both horological tradition and timeless design.

Brand History

Zenith was founded in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot in Le Locle, Switzerland, and is celebrated as one of the first watch manufactures to fully integrate every aspect of production under one roof. This groundbreaking approach laid the foundation for over a century of innovation and precision. Zenith’s most iconic achievement came in 1969 with the launch of the El Primero, one of the world’s first automatic chronograph movements—and still one of the most accurate, beating at an impressive 36,000 vibrations per hour. This movement would go on to power legendary models and even find its way into watches by other major Swiss brands.

Zenith’s current lineup honors its legacy while embracing modernity. The Chronomaster series continues to showcase the high-frequency prowess of the El Primero, offering split-second accuracy and open-heart dial designs. The Defy collection pushes the brand into futuristic territory with skeletonized dials, cutting-edge materials, and innovative escapements. Meanwhile, the Pilot line draws on Zenith’s history of aviation timepieces, featuring oversized crowns and vintage-inspired aesthetics. Known for its relentless pursuit of precision and its role in shaping the future of Swiss watchmaking, Zenith remains popular amongst collectors who value performance, heritage, and technical artistry in equal measure.
