Synchron 70's Military Black Edition

The Synchron 70’s Military Black Edition is a modern recreation of the distinctive military dive watches produced during the 1970s, capturing the uncompromising tool-watch aesthetic of the era while upgrading the construction for modern use. The Black Edition features a 42mm 316L stainless steel case with a black coating, measuring a compact 45mm lug-to-lug and approximately 14mm thick including the caseback. Its highly recognizable black-and-white dial uses large geometric markers and hands filled with aged-tritium-style Super-LumiNova, creating the vintage military appearance of the original watches. Surrounding the dial is a 37mm unidirectional 120-click bezel with a sapphire insert and fully luminous timing scale. With 300 meters of water resistance and a genuine rubber Tropic or ISOfrane strap, the Military remains a genuinely capable dive watch rather than simply a vintage-inspired design exercise. The original release consisted of only 500 watches total, split between 250 stainless-steel examples and 250 Black Edition pieces.

Inside is a Swiss automatic ETA 2824-2 or Sellita SW200 Elaboré-grade movement, depending on when the individual watch was produced. Synchron originally intended to use the ETA 2824-2 throughout the run, but supply limitations resulted in later examples receiving the comparable Sellita SW200. Both operate at 28,800 vibrations per hour, provide hacking and hand-winding functionality, and offer roughly 38–40 hours of power reserve. The Black Edition is particularly compelling because its dark case treatment more closely evokes the military-issued dive watches that inspired the project, while its limited 250-piece production makes it significantly scarcer than many of Synchron’s later releases. With its unusual dial architecture, luminous sapphire bezel, 300-meter rating, Swiss automatic movement, and unapologetically 1970s proportions, the Synchron 70’s Military Black Edition is a distinctive modern tribute to an obscure but highly collectible era of professional dive-watch design.
