Squale, based in Italy highly-respected leader in the dive watch industry in the ’60s and ’70s, numerous renowned Swiss watch manufacturers such as Tag Heuer, Doxa, and Blancpain sought out Squale’s watchmaking expertise to manufacture robust and well-designed cases for their watches.
Drass Galeazzi, founded in 1927, an Italian manufacturing company that best known for their range of midget submarine and swimmer delivery vehicle. They even set the world record for deep diving immersion with an atmospheric diving suit in 1937. Drass has built vessels for both the Italian military and the export market.
Together decided to celebrate a magnificent partnership by introduces a fantastic limited-edition timepiece to reflect on both the prodigious heritage of Drass Galeazzi and the distinguished watchmaking legacy of Squale. With a blend of vintage-inspired design, modern materials, and spectacular underwater performance, packed full of exciting features for both professional divers and avid watch enthusiasts.
The Butoscopic Turret established a world-first at 275 meters under waters in 1930 permitting deep sea search and recovery operations without the need for decompression. That same year the Turret became an international sensation when it located the long-lost luxury liner SS Egypt and retrieved its immense cargo of gold bullions.
The famed Galeazzi diving helmet range included the Modello Marina, an exquisite design masterpiece, which was exclusively supplied to the Italian Navy Special Forces unit from the 1940s.
Inspired by the iconic Squale Master dive watch, the new Galeazzi dive watch has a polished steel case that is water resistant up to 500 meters. It comes with a thick 4mm anti-reflective sapphire crystal and it has an automatic helium release valve for professional diving.
The black and vintage color markers scheme chosen for the bezel and dial evokes a classic style. This combination gives the Squale Galeazzi a vintage aesthetic that commemorates the extraordinary history of both brands.
The dial features both the Squale logo at 12 o'clock and the classic Galeazzi logo at 6 o'clock. This logo depicts a diver's helmet, the symbol par excellence of the pioneering experience of underwater exploration. The Galeazzi logo also appears on the caseback, along with the serial number of this remarkable limited edition collaboration.
The packaging box is intended to be functional. It's IP67 certified: these boxes are designed to transport and protect sensitive equipment and materials. They are also equipped with an automatic pressurization valve, to guarantee resistance to water, dust and impacts. The Squale Galeazzi comes with a smooth, black leather strap adorned with elegant grey inserts for a perfect retro look. A microfiber strap is also included in the box. This modern material guarantees lightness and comfort.
The stainless steel case is 42mm in diameter and 16mm thick. Lug to lug it is 49mm. The automatic movement is a Swiss Made Sellita SW200 with a 41 hour power reserve. The bezel is uni-directional, 120-click, with luminous markers.
