The Rolex Submariner Ref. 14060M “Scrambled Engraved” 4-Liner is a collectible variation of one of Rolex’s most beloved no-date dive watches. Produced in the mid-2000s, the 14060M represents the final generation of the classic aluminum-bezel Submariner before Rolex transitioned the model to ceramic inserts. The 40 mm stainless steel Oyster case, black dial, and black aluminum unidirectional bezel maintain the timeless tool-watch aesthetic that has defined the Submariner since the 1950s. The “4-liner” dial indicates that the watch carries four lines of text above 6 o’clock, reflecting its COSC chronometer certification—a distinction added to later production models of the 14060M.
The nickname “Scrambled Engraved” refers to the Rolex rehaut engraving introduced during this era, where “ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX” is repeatedly engraved around the inner bezel ring. On early examples, the alignment between the engraved text and the dial markers can appear irregular or “scrambled,” which collectors use as a descriptive nickname. Inside the watch is the Rolex Calibre 3130, a robust automatic movement known for reliability and precision, offering around 48 hours of power reserve and certified chronometer accuracy in the 4-liner configuration.

Brand History
Brand History
Rolex was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, before moving to Geneva in 1919 to be closer to the heart of Swiss watchmaking. From the start, Wilsdorf envisioned a wristwatch that was not only elegant, but also precise and reliable—an ambitious goal at a time when pocket watches dominated. Rolex went on to pioneer key innovations in horology, including the first officially certified chronometer wristwatch, the Oyster case (the world’s first waterproof wristwatch), and the Perpetual rotor—the self-winding mechanism that became the standard for modern automatic watches. These technical breakthroughs laid the foundation for Rolex’s enduring reputation for rugged luxury and mechanical excellence.
Today, Rolex is arguably the most recognized name in watches, with models like the Submariner, Daytona, Datejust, and GMT-Master becoming cultural icons in their own right. Whether tied to deep-sea exploration, motorsport, aviation, or mountain summits, each model reflects the brand’s commitment to performance and precision under extreme conditions. The brand’s status is bolstered by its unmatched consistency in design, rigorous in-house testing, and long-standing associations with exploration, sport, and achievement. For collectors and enthusiasts, Rolex represents more than a timepiece—it’s a benchmark of mechanical reliability, timeless design, and global prestige.
