The Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 126720VTNR, commonly nicknamed the “Sprite,” is one of the most unconventional modern Rolex sports watches, introducing a striking left-handed configuration to the contemporary GMT-Master II collection. Unveiled at Watches and Wonders in 2022, the Sprite features a 40mm Oystersteel case with its winding crown, crown guards, and date window positioned at 9 o’clock rather than the traditional 3 o’clock. This distinctive arrangement, often referred to as a “Destro” configuration, immediately separates it from other GMT-Master II references. Its black lacquer dial features luminous white-gold hour markers, Mercedes-style hands, and a vibrant green 24-hour GMT hand that complements the two-tone green-and-black Cerachrom ceramic bezel. The bidirectional bezel allows the wearer to track an additional time zone, while a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with Cyclops magnification, screw-down Triplock crown, and 100 meters of water resistance maintain the durability expected from Rolex’s professional sports collection. Offered on either a three-link Oyster or five-link Jubilee bracelet, the Sprite combines familiar GMT-Master II styling with a completely different visual identity.

Inside is Rolex’s in-house Calibre 3285, a self-winding mechanical GMT movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivering approximately 70 hours of power reserve. The movement incorporates Rolex’s highly efficient Chronergy escapement, paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring, and Paraflex shock absorbers, providing exceptional precision and reliability. As a Superlative Chronometer, the completed watch is regulated to an accuracy of -2/+2 seconds per day. Its true traveler’s GMT functionality allows the local hour hand to be adjusted independently in one-hour increments without interrupting timekeeping, while the green 24-hour hand continuously tracks home time. The rotating bezel can also be used to monitor a third time zone, continuing the practical functionality that made the original GMT-Master a favorite among international pilots.
