Rolex Datejust II Black Dial 116334

The Rolex Datejust II Ref. 116334 represents an important transitional chapter in the Datejust’s history, introduced in 2009 as the first version of the collection to expand to a substantial 41mm case. This White Rolesor configuration combines a stainless steel Oyster case and bracelet with Rolex’s signature fluted bezel crafted from 18k white gold. The black dial features applied luminous hour markers, polished hands, and the familiar date aperture at 3 o’clock beneath Rolex’s Cyclops magnification lens. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, screw-down Twinlock crown, and 100 meters of water resistance give the watch the durability expected from an Oyster-cased Rolex. Unlike the slimmer Datejust 41 that eventually replaced it, the Datejust II uses broader lugs, a larger bezel, and more muscular proportions that give the 116334 a noticeably sportier presence on the wrist.

Powering the 116334 is Rolex’s automatic Calibre 3136, a 31-jewel COSC-certified chronometer operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivering approximately 48 hours of power reserve. Based on the proven Calibre 3135 architecture, the 3136 incorporates Rolex’s blue Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers while providing central seconds and a quickset date function. The Datejust II remained in production until 2016, when Rolex replaced it with the more refined Datejust 41 and its newer Calibre 3235. Its relatively short production run, distinctive heavier case architecture, black dial, white-gold fluted bezel, and purpose-built Calibre 3136 make the 116334 an appealing neo-modern Rolex that stands apart from both the traditional 36mm Datejust and the current-generation Datejust 41.
