The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Calibre 473 Ref. 01 473 7786 4065 is a modern expression of one of Oris’s most recognizable designs, combining the brand’s aviation-inspired heritage with an impressive in-house-developed movement. The watch features a classically proportioned 38mm multi-piece stainless steel case surrounding a distinctive lagoon/light teal-blue dial. Its signature pointer-date complication uses a central hand to indicate the date around the outer edge of the dial, while a subsidiary seconds display at 6 o’clock gives the watch a more traditional mechanical character. The oversized crown remains faithful to the Big Crown design language Oris first established for pilots in the 1930s. A domed sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating, sapphire exhibition caseback, 19mm lug width, and 50 meters of water resistance complete the package. Depending on the full reference configuration, the watch was offered on either a deer-leather strap or Oris’s stainless steel H-link bracelet.

The centerpiece is Oris Calibre 473, a manually wound movement that represented the tenth in-house-developed caliber created by Oris within a decade. It is also the first hand-wound movement in the Calibre 400 family and delivers an exceptional 120-hour, or five-day, power reserve while operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. In addition to hours, minutes, small seconds, and the instantaneous pointer date, the movement incorporates stop-seconds functionality and a power-reserve indicator positioned on the movement side, visible through the sapphire caseback without adding another display to the dial. Oris also engineered the Calibre 473 with elevated resistance to magnetism and offers eligibility for an extended 10-year warranty through MyOris. With its compact 38mm dimensions, traditional pointer-date display, unusually long five-day reserve, and manually wound in-house movement, the Ref. 01 473 7786 4065 is one of the more mechanically significant versions of the long-running Big Crown Pointer Date.
