Omega Speedmaster MK40 3520.53 Triple Date

The Omega Speedmaster MK40 Ref. 3520.53 is one of the most distinctive and complication-packed Speedmasters of the 1990s, often known as the “Triple Date” or “MK40.” Introduced around 1996, it features a compact 39mm stainless steel case paired with a fixed tachymeter bezel and sapphire crystal, giving it a smaller and more wearable profile than the traditional 42mm Moonwatch. Its multicolored dial is the defining feature, combining a dark grey and black base with red, yellow, white, and blue accents to organize an impressive amount of information. The watch displays the day and month through apertures at 12 o’clock, while a central pointer hand indicates the date around the dial’s perimeter. The subdial at 9 o’clock combines running seconds with a blue 24-hour day/night indicator, while the remaining registers handle the chronograph’s elapsed minutes and hours.

Inside is Omega’s automatic Calibre 1151, based on the proven ETA/Valjoux 7751 architecture and operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with approximately 42–44 hours of power reserve. Unlike the modular movement used in the Speedmaster Reduced, the 1151 is an integrated automatic chronograph architecture that incorporates the chronograph and full-calendar functions into the movement.
