Omega Speedmaster 3573.50 'Sapphire Sandwich'

The Omega Speedmaster Professional Ref. 3573.50 “Sapphire Sandwich” is a refined variation of the classic Moonwatch that combines the traditional Speedmaster design with modern finishing and a display caseback. Produced in the early 2000s through the 2010s, the 3573.50 maintains the iconic 42 mm stainless-steel case, black dial, and tachymeter bezel that define the Speedmaster Professional line. The dial features the familiar tri-compax chronograph layout with small seconds at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, along with luminous baton markers and hands. Unlike the traditional Moonwatch, this model uses a flat sapphire crystal instead of hesalite, giving it improved scratch resistance and a slightly more modern look.

Inside the watch is the Omega Calibre 1863, a manual-winding chronograph movement based on the historic Lemania-derived architecture used in Moonwatch models. Mechanically identical to the Calibre 1861 used in the standard 3570.50, the 1863 features enhanced finishing because it is visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback—the defining feature that gives the “Sapphire Sandwich” its nickname. The movement beats at 21,600 vph and offers approximately 48 hours of power reserve, providing the same reliable performance that has made the Speedmaster one of the most enduring chronographs in watchmaking.
