For sale is the Omega Speedmaster 125 Anniversary, ref. 178.0002 / ST 378.0801 - Omega's 1973 flagship released to celebrate 125 years since the brand's founding in 1848. This was Omega's most progressive chronograph of the era and the model that introduced the legendary Caliber 1041, the world's first COSC chronometer-certified automatic chronograph. Originally advertised as a limited edition of 2,000 pieces, it remains one of the most important and undervalued anniversary Speedmasters ever made, and one of the few Speedmasters to be worn in space by cosmonaut Vladimir Dzhanibekov in 1978.
This example features the signature massive stainless steel two-piece modular case at 42mm with 51mm lug-to-lug, black dial with applied OMEGA 125 logo, date at 3, 12-hour counter at 6 and running seconds with 24-hour indicator at 9, and the original integrated stainless steel bracelet ref. 1221/212. Inside beats the Lemania-based Omega Caliber 1041, 22 jewels, 28,800 A/h with 40+ hour power reserve. Bold, heavy, and pure 1970s Omega design with the tachymeter scale printed under the mineral crystal - a true collector's Speedmaster that stands apart from any modern Moonwatch.
