The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M “Liquidmetal” Ref. 222.30.42.20.01.001 is one of the most historically significant early Planet Ocean references, introduced in 2009 as Omega’s first watch to showcase its Liquidmetal technology. Limited to just 1,948 individually numbered pieces—a nod to the year the Seamaster collection debuted—the watch pairs a 42mm stainless steel case with a glossy black zirconium-dioxide (ZrO2) ceramic dial and matching ceramic diving bezel. What made the watch groundbreaking was Omega’s process of bonding Liquidmetal alloy directly into the ceramic bezel to form the numerals and diving scale, producing a completely flush surface with exceptional resistance to scratching, fading, and corrosion. Applied white-gold indexes and Arabic numerals, red “Seamaster” lettering, a date at 3 o’clock, domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, helium escape valve, screw-down crown, and 600 meters of water resistance complete the professional diving package.

Inside is Omega’s automatic Co-Axial Calibre 2500, a chronometer-rated movement operating at 25,200 vibrations per hour and providing approximately 48 hours of power reserve. Its relatively thin architecture allowed Omega to keep this professional 600-meter diver around 14.5mm thick, giving the Liquidmetal model noticeably more restrained proportions than many of the Calibre 8500 Planet Oceans that followed. The Ref. 222.30.42.20.01.001 is particularly important because it served as a technological preview of where Omega was heading: ceramic bezels and dials, advanced proprietary alloys, applied dial furniture, and increasingly luxurious finishing would soon become defining characteristics of the modern Planet Ocean line. With only 1,948 examples produced and its status as the very first Omega to employ Liquidmetal technology, it occupies a unique transitional position between the original tool-oriented Planet Ocean and the more technically advanced generations that followed.
