The Nivada Grenchen Autochron Mecaquartz Blue Ref. 77005Q45 brings the brand’s vintage racing-inspired chronograph design into a compact and highly wearable modern package. Its 38mm stainless steel case measures 44.3mm lug-to-lug and 12.65mm thick, combining brushed and polished surfaces with a double-domed sapphire crystal. The standout feature is its subtly textured matte blue dial, contrasted by three black chronograph registers, bright white luminous markings, and a date window at 3 o’clock. Surrounding the dial is a black aluminum 120-click rotating bezel, reinforcing the Autochron’s purposeful motorsport aesthetic. Despite its vintage proportions, the watch offers an impressive 200 meters of water resistance, making it considerably more capable than the typical racing chronograph. Ref. 77005Q45 is paired with the stainless steel bracelet, giving the blue-and-black configuration a particularly cohesive sporting appearance.
Powering the Autochron is the TMI VK67 Meca-Quartz movement, which combines the accuracy and convenience of quartz timekeeping with the tactile character of a mechanically actuated chronograph. Its functions include hours, minutes, running small seconds, central 1/5-second chronograph seconds, a 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter, and date, while its silver-oxide battery provides approximately three years of operation. The meca-quartz architecture gives the chronograph a smoother sweeping seconds hand and crisp reset while avoiding the maintenance demands of a fully mechanical chronograph. With its 38mm proportions, textured blue reverse-panda dial, sapphire crystal, substantial water resistance, and hybrid VK67 movement, the 77005Q45 captures much of the personality of a vintage racing chronograph while remaining an easy and practical watch for everyday wear.

Brand History
Brand History
Nivada Grenchen, established in 1926 in Grenchen, Switzerland, quickly became renowned for its rugged tool watches that pushed the boundaries of horological innovation. The brand solidified its reputation with the introduction of the Antarctic in 1950, the first waterproof automatic watch. This timepiece gained fame when it accompanied members of the U.S. Navy's Operation Deep Freeze I during their South Pole expedition from 1955 to 1956.
In 1961, Nivada Grenchen launched the Chronomaster, a versatile waterproof chronograph designed for aviators, divers, and sports enthusiasts. The company continued its innovative streak with the release of the Depthomatic in 1964, the first diver's watch featuring a depth indicator, followed by the Depthmaster in 1965, capable of withstanding pressures up to 1,000 meters.
After a period of dormancy, Nivada Grenchen experienced a rebirth in 2018, reintroducing two of its most iconic models—the Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver and the Antarctic—at the forefront of its revival. The relaunch paved the way for the brand’s enduring appeal among modern watch enthusiasts while honoring its storied heritage.
