Originally issued to Canadian Search and Rescue (SAR) Techs in the early 2000s, the SAR-D marked the beginning of Marathon’s SAR Dive watches. Building upon that legacy, the 41mm OSAR-D was re-engineered and launched in 2024 with upgraded MaraGlo illumination for enhanced visibility, larger indices for quick reading, and an improved cyclops date window.
Yet not all operators, nor missions, are built the same. A 46mm size was added to the lineup (in both dial colours) to accommodate larger wrist sizes. All OSAR-D models feature Incabloc® shock protection and Sellita automatic movements. Notably, the 46mm OSAR-D is the first of the SAR series to be equipped with SW600 b movement, renowned for its 62-hour power reserve. Built for durability and precision, the OSAR-D is mission-ready.
The Marathon 46mm OSAR-D Diver’s Automatic Standard-Issue Type I (ref. WW194037SS-2001) is the largest and most heavy-duty evolution of Marathon’s legendary Search and Rescue platform. Originally inspired by watches issued to Canadian SAR technicians in the early 2000s, the modern OSAR-D lineup was re-engineered with upgraded MaraGlo illumination, larger dial markers, improved cyclops magnification, and enhanced durability for professional use. The 46mm version was specifically added for operators and collectors wanting maximum wrist presence without sacrificing the functional DNA that defines Marathon’s military-issued watches.
Built from brushed 316L stainless steel with a thick sapphire crystal and oversized screw-down crown, the watch is engineered for harsh environments and real underwater use. Unlike many oversized divers that prioritize aesthetics, the OSAR-D feels purpose-built—its deeply knurled bezel, high-contrast Type I dial, and massive case proportions are all designed around visibility and operability in demanding conditions. It features 300 meters of water resistance and is powered by the Swiss Sellita SW600 b automatic movement with Incabloc shock protection, making it the first SAR-series Marathon to receive the upgraded movement and extended 62-hour power reserve.

Brand History
Brand History
Marathon Watch Company has built a reputation as one of the most trusted military watch brands in the world. Founded in 1939, Marathon specializes in Swiss-made tool watches designed specifically for government and military use.
Unlike many luxury watch brands, Marathon focuses on function over flash. The brand has supplied U.S. and Allied forces with durable, high-performance timepieces for decades. Their watches are known for tritium gas tube illumination, allowing constant visibility in low-light conditions—no charging required.
Popular models like the Marathon GSAR (Government Search and Rescue) and TSAR (Tritium Search and Rescue) are built to withstand extreme environments, making them a go-to choice for divers, pilots, and professionals.
Today, Marathon continues to produce military-issued watches, combining Swiss craftsmanship, rugged durability, and tactical design. If you're searching for a reliable tool watch with real military heritage, Marathon stands in a class of its own.
