1970's Girard Perregaux Super Compressor Diver Gyromatic 4057
The minimalist retro design of this Girard Perregaux Gyromatic is extravagant and eye-catching. The 70s diver's watch offers outstanding mechanical quality and due to its mint condition it's a super valuable collector's item.
The case of the Gyromatic is a so-called "Super Compressor". The deeper you dive with the watch, the harder the case back is pressed against the sealing ring, thus resulting in increased water resistance. This unique case design comes from Ervin Pequerez S.A (EPSA), who supplied the most prestigious watch brands with his case in the 60s and 70s. A typical feature of an EPSA Super-Compressor are the twin crowns on the right side of the case. The upper crown is used to turn the inner bezel and the lower one is used to wind the movement and set the time.
The heart of this watch is the Girard-Perregaux in-house caliber Gyromatic 441, which is an automatic high-frequency movement with 36000 vibrations, hence the inscription on the dial: "highfrequency". This high quality movement features a rare mechanism for date quickset. By repeatedly pulling out the crown at 4 o'clock, the date is increased by one day at a time. In addition, this caliber has a hacking second function: when setting the time, the second hand stops, so that the time can be set to the second.
