Atelier Wen Perception V2.0 'Piao Ice Blue'

The Atelier Wen Perception V2.0 “Piāo” Ice Blue is a striking example of contemporary Chinese watchmaking, built around traditional craftsmanship rarely encountered at this price point. Its centerpiece is the ice-blue dial, individually hand-turned on a rose engine by the workshop of Cheng Yucai, China’s first master guilloché craftsman. Each dial requires roughly eight hours of work and features an intricate écailles de poisson, or “fish-scale,” guilloché pattern that dramatically changes character as it catches the light. The four-part dial construction draws inspiration from the ancient Chinese sǔn mǎo mortise-and-tenon method, while the luminous huí wén patterned chapter ring, applied indexes, and sculpted rhodium-plated leaf hands continue the distinctly Chinese design language. The integrated 904L stainless steel case measures 40mm across, 47mm lug-to-lug, and an impressively slim 9.4mm thick, with a double-domed sapphire crystal and 100 meters of water resistance.

Powering the Perception V2.0 is the customized Dandong/Peacock SL1588 automatic movement, an extra-thin 32-jewel caliber operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivering approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Atelier Wen adjusts the movement in five positions and for temperature variations, targeting accuracy of approximately ±10 seconds per day, while decorative details include circular Côtes de Genève, polished jewel and screw sinks, heat-blued screws, and a tungsten rotor. The integrated 904L steel bracelet features quick-release construction and a tool-free micro-adjustable clasp, complementing the mixture of brushed and highly polished surfaces found throughout the case. With its genuinely hand-executed guilloché dial, slim integrated-bracelet architecture, and emphasis on showcasing high-level Chinese craftsmanship, the Piāo V2.0 stands as one of Atelier Wen’s defining creations and an important example of the rapidly evolving world of independent Chinese haute horlogerie.
