The Arken Alterum Speakeasy GMT Blue Ref. ML-CWG-B is a distinctive take on the modern travel watch from independent British watchmaker Arken, founded by Kenneth Lam. The Speakeasy edition adds an element of exclusivity to the Alterum collection, with these special configurations offered primarily through in-person watch events rather than traditional online releases. Its lightweight titanium case features a scratch-resistant treatment and measures approximately 40mm across the case, 38mm across the bezel, 46mm lug-to-lug, and 13mm thick. The Alterum's angular case architecture, integrated-style lugs, and unconventional dial layout give it a contemporary tool-watch aesthetic that stands apart from traditional GMT designs. The dial incorporates a contrasting blue GMT hand, oversized BGW9 Super-LumiNova hour markers, dual AM/PM indicator windows, and a pointer-date subdial at 6 o'clock. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, locking date-adjustment pusher, and impressive 200 meters of water resistance complete a watch designed to be equally capable during travel and everyday wear.

Inside is Arken's proprietary ARK-9015DT automatic movement, developed around the reliable Japanese Miyota 9015 architecture with a custom mechanical module engineered specifically for the Alterum. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with 24 jewels and approximately 42 hours of power reserve, the movement offers a particularly clever interpretation of the GMT complication. Rather than using a conventional 24-hour GMT display, the Alterum incorporates an additional 12-hour hand alongside independent AM/PM indicators for both local and home time, allowing the wearer to distinguish between day and night in two different time zones. The date is adjusted through a separate screw-down pusher, an unusual mechanical solution that preserves the watch's distinctive functionality.
