The Airain Type 21 is inspired by a 1960s vintage model first found at a Sotheby's auction, which honored the French Ministry of Defence's 1956 request to upgrade the Type 20 for increased durability and easier maintenance. The Type 21 sports a glossy black dial with Grade X1 ‘Old Radium’ lume, proudly showcasing the Airain crown logo and ‘Type 21’ marking.
The Movement:
The Type 21 is powered by the caliber AM2, a hand-wound column wheel chronograph movement developed by Manufacture AMT in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. This movement features a flyback function, allowing pilots to quickly reset the chronograph and start a new timing event without delay. It boasts a power reserve of 63 hours and includes 23 jewels with Incabloc shock protection, ensuring durability and precision.

Brand History
Brand History
Montres Airain was originally founded by the esteemed Dodane family in 1934, gaining recognition for its reliable and high-quality timepieces. During the 1950s and 1960s, Airain was one of the select suppliers (along with Breguet and Dodane) of the Type 20 model for the French Army. The Type 20 refers to a specification for pilot’s chronographs issued by the French Ministry of Defense.
Beyond the Type 20 chronograph, Airain’s legacy includes iconic models such as the ‘Sous-Marine’ dive watch and the Airain ’77’ from the 1950s, which remain highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
After relaunching Airain’s sister brand, Lebois & Co, in 2014, we turned our attention to Airain, then owned by a passionate French entrepreneur. After sharing our vision, we were able to acquire Airain and reunite it with Lebois & Co, just as it was in 1934.
Today, Airain is revitalized with a focus on bringing the brand’s heritage into the future. We began this new chapter with the reintroduction of the highly anticipated ‘Type 20’ Flyback Chronograph, and we are excited to continue developing Airain’s legacy. Stay connected with us to follow all upcoming developments. We look forward to sharing this journey with you!
