The Airain Sous-Marine “Deep Blue” 524.422 delivers a bold yet refined take on the brand’s vintage-inspired dive watch formula, anchored by its rich, ocean-toned blue dial. Housed in a stainless steel case, the watch stays true to mid-century design cues with clean lines, balanced proportions, and a highly legible layout. The deep blue dial adds a modern edge, contrasted by luminous markers and classic handset styling that ensure clarity in all conditions. Paired with a unidirectional bezel and a domed crystal, it captures the essence of traditional dive watches while offering the reliability of a contemporary automatic movement.
What makes the “Deep Blue” stand out is its versatility—it leans sporty but carries enough refinement to work beyond just casual settings. The dial shifts subtly with light, giving it depth and personality without feeling overdone. Combined with solid construction and thoughtful finishing, this reference hits that sweet spot between heritage and modern wearability. For collectors looking for a clean, ocean-inspired diver with authentic roots and everyday usability, the Sous-Marine “Deep Blue” is an easy win.
The Movement:
The movement inside the Airain Sous-Marine is the Swiss-Made AM5 automatic calibre, based on the La Joux-Perret G100. It features a 68-hour power reserve, a tungsten rotor for smooth rotation and weight distribution, and is regulated to four positions for accuracy. The movement is decorated with Geneva stripes and blue polished screws, ensuring both performance and aesthetic appeal.
Parmentier Crown:
The case features a so-called Parmentier crown that adds even more character. The Parmentier construction consists of a small winding crown and a large screw-on cap to cover it. This helps make the Sous-Marine water resistant to 200 meters. The screw-on cap features a notched recess on the outside so you can operate the small crown underneath. A practical thing to keep in mind is that the cap comes off the watch as a separate element.

Brand History
Brand History
Montres Airain was originally founded by the esteemed Dodane family in 1934, gaining recognition for its reliable and high-quality timepieces. During the 1950s and 1960s, Airain was one of the select suppliers (along with Breguet and Dodane) of the Type 20 model for the French Army. The Type 20 refers to a specification for pilot’s chronographs issued by the French Ministry of Defense.
Beyond the Type 20 chronograph, Airain’s legacy includes iconic models such as the ‘Sous-Marine’ dive watch and the Airain ’77’ from the 1950s, which remain highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
After relaunching Airain’s sister brand, Lebois & Co, in 2014, we turned our attention to Airain, then owned by a passionate French entrepreneur. After sharing our vision, we were able to acquire Airain and reunite it with Lebois & Co, just as it was in 1934.
Today, Airain is revitalized with a focus on bringing the brand’s heritage into the future. We began this new chapter with the reintroduction of the highly anticipated ‘Type 20’ Flyback Chronograph, and we are excited to continue developing Airain’s legacy. Stay connected with us to follow all upcoming developments. We look forward to sharing this journey with you!
