1968 Rolex Oyster Perpetual 1018

The 1968 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Ref. 1018 is an unusually desirable vintage Oyster Perpetual, distinguished by its larger 36mm stainless steel case at a time when most comparable Rolex Oyster Perpetual references measured just 34mm. Its proportions closely resemble the legendary Explorer Ref. 1016, sharing a 36mm footprint and 20mm lug width while offering a cleaner, more understated appearance with a smooth polished bezel and classic time-only dial. An acrylic crystal, screw-down Oyster crown and caseback preserve the unmistakable character of a late-1960s Rolex, while the Jubilee bracelet gives this example a slightly dressier presence than the Oyster bracelets more commonly associated with the reference. Period examples of the 1018 are also known with Jubilee bracelets, making the pairing well suited to the watch’s understated design.
